The 1974 U.S. Open Golf Championship was the 74th U.S. Open played June 13-16 at Winged Foot Golf Club (West Course) in Mamaroneck, New York. Hale Irwin won the championship. This was known as "The Massacre" because the winner shot 7 strokes over par - exceptionally high for a major championship.
